Senate stalls Clarity Act on crypto rules, citing Trump family conflicts

The US Senate failed to muster the 60 votes needed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a bill meant to divide crypto oversight between the SEC and CFTC. Democrats blocked the measure over inadequate ethics provisions limiting officials, including President Trump, from profiting off crypto ventures while in office. Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, and Solana all dropped following the vote.

UAE's Tahnoon bin Zayed holds 49% stake in Trump family's planned crypto bank

The Wall Street Journal reports that Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al Nahyan, the UAE's national security advisor, and co-investors control a 49% stake through StringZ Holding RSC in WLTC Holdings, the parent company of a planned Trump-linked crypto bank. A Trump family-affiliated entity holds an additional 38% stake. Tahnoon previously invested $500 million in World Liberty Financial, another Trump-backed crypto venture, in January 2025.
