A new home theater buying guide explains that while projectors can technically display images on any wall, dedicated screens significantly improve brightness, smoothness, and contrast. The guide notes that even inexpensive screens outperform painted walls by eliminating surface texture and better reflecting light back toward viewers.
At IFA 2026, AWOL Vision introduced the LuxVision, an ultra-short-throw projector it claims is the first to combine native 4K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and optical lens shift. The unit uses an RGB triple-laser light source rated at 6,000 ISO lumens and a 0.18:1 throw ratio, letting it cast a 120-inch image from just 7.5 inches away, with screen sizes scaling up to 200 inches. It ships around October starting at $6,499.
XGIMI has introduced two new ultra-short-throw projectors, the Aura 3 Pro and Aura 3 Max, succeeding the Aura 2 series. The new models use a triple-laser RGB light source and dual-iris light path to hit up to 5700 ISO lumens and an 8000:1 contrast ratio, more than doubling the Aura 2's brightness and contrast figures. They also support 4K output at 120Hz with 1ms latency, targeting gamers as well as home theater users.
