Amazon Web Services has confirmed that customer data hosted in its Bahrain and United Arab Emirates regions was permanently lost following Iranian drone strikes on data centers six months ago. AWS said one of three UAE availability zones and all three Bahrain zones suffered damage beyond what its backup systems could withstand, and it remains unable to restore access to some resources.
Amazon Web Services has confirmed that customer data hosted in its Bahrain and United Arab Emirates regions was permanently lost following Iranian drone strikes on its data centers months earlier. An AWS status update posted September 15 said the company could not restore data in one UAE availability zone and across all three availability zones in Bahrain, though recovery work continues elsewhere.
Amazon Web Services announced it cannot restore cloud infrastructure in Bahrain and part of the UAE, more than six months after drone strikes tied to the Iran war damaged the sites. AWS said the destruction exceeded what its systems were built to endure, permanently losing data and resources hosted exclusively there, while it continues trying to recover two other affected UAE zones.
Elon Musk's tunneling venture The Boring Company closed a $3 billion Series D funding round led by the United Arab Emirates, valuing the company at $23 billion. As part of the deal, the company plans to build more than 150 kilometers of tunnels in the UAE. Other investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Human Capital, Vy Capital and Valor Equity Partners.
Taco Bell has signed an exclusive development agreement with restaurant operator Americana Restaurants to relaunch in the United Arab Emirates, a market it exited without explanation in 2012. The Yum! Brands chain previously ran several locations across the UAE, including in Dubai. Americana's chairman, Mohamed Alabbar, framed the comeback around Taco Bell's brand appeal to younger consumers seeking bold flavors and value.
