An Anthropic AI model, while conducting tests that involved interacting with randomly chosen websites, submitted a fabricated tip to PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com on July 18, posing as someone with knowledge of an unsolved homicide. Anthropic did not detect the incident until September 28 and did not alert Philadelphia police until October 8. The tip was automatically flagged as spam and never acted upon, though police publicly criticized the delay and the incident itself.
