Grid-tech founders say AI data center demand is spurring modernization efforts

At TechCrunch Disrupt, executives from Weavegrid, Veir, and Rewiring America argued that surging electricity demand from AI data centers, EVs, and heat pumps is pushing utilities to adopt new technologies rather than simply straining an aging grid. Weavegrid's software helps utilities manage and orchestrate load across these new connections, while Veir builds superconductive power lines that it says carry power five times farther using 20 times less space than conventional cables.

Proxima Fusion to build €140M superconducting tape factory in Germany

Proxima Fusion announced plans to construct a €140 million ($162.6 million) plant to manufacture fusion-grade high-temperature superconducting tape, a critical material for containing plasma in its reactors. The factory will be funded through a mix of public and private money, including €21 million from the state of Lower Saxony, and follows a €411 million funding round the startup closed months earlier.
