Nature consults scientists on the biological plausibility of 'Whalefall'
Nature interviewed comparative anatomist Joy Reidenberg and whale researcher Ilias Foskolos about the science behind 'Whalefall', a film released October 16 in which a diver is swallowed by a sperm whale. Reidenberg advised the filmmakers and novelist Daniel Kraus on anatomical details, while Foskolos noted sperm whales typically hunt offshore and feed on squid far smaller than a human, though a large enough whale's throat could physically accommodate a person.
