Swedish defense researchers build WiFireNet, an AI that spots hidden guns via Wi-Fi
Researchers at Sweden's FOI defense agency created WiFireNet, an AI system that detects concealed handguns by analyzing how Wi-Fi signals bounce off objects and bodies. They built it by recording video alongside Wi-Fi channel state data of people carrying items like phones, water bottles and handguns, then trained the model to recognize a gun's distinct signal pattern. In trials with up to four people moving in a small room, the system achieved 72.5% average precision in detecting handguns, though accuracy dropped under stricter location-pinpointing tests.
