Developer completes hand-coded demoscene intro for ZX Spectrum 128K

A hobbyist programmer has finished a retro-style demoscene intro running on a stock 128Kb ZX Spectrum, featuring a scrolling text with custom fonts, a three-channel AY soundtrack, VU meters and a parallax starfield. The project, started on December 13th, compiles to 10287 bytes of code (19552 bytes as a full tape image), and is available as a downloadable .tap file, a YouTube capture, a pouet.net listing, and a browser-runnable version via the creator's TNFS site.

ZX Desk brings GEM-style windowed desktop to 48K ZX Spectrum

A developer has built ZX Desk, a full graphical desktop environment for the 1982 ZX Spectrum 48K, written entirely in Z80 assembly. It supports overlapping resizable windows with z-ordering, pull-down menus, a file manager, notepad, calendar, clock and settings panel, all running within the machine's 48K memory and real-time frame budget, on actual hardware rather than an emulator.

New browser-based IDE lets developers code assembly for M68K, Z80, MIPS and RISC-V

A developer released a browser-hosted IDE that supports writing and running assembly programs for four architectures: M68K, MIPS, RISC-V and Z80. The tool includes a virtual screen and terminal, letting programs draw graphics, read mouse and keyboard input, or handle standard text input and output.
