Amazon confirmed its Prime Big Deal Days sale will run for two days starting at 3:01am ET on October 6, spanning more than 35 product categories including electronics, kitchenware, fashion and beauty. Brands like Shark, Anker, Sony and Lego are expected to participate, alongside discounts on Amazon's own Kindle and Echo devices, plus a dedicated Halloween deals section.
Amazon has increased prices on several standard Kindle models and their Signature editions, while leaving the newly launched Kindle Scribe, Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, and Kindle Scribe Without Front Light untouched at $500, $630, and $430 respectively. Amazon did not comment directly to WIRED, but told CNET the hikes stem from rising memory and storage component costs. The new Scribe lineup features an 11-inch screen, slimmer design, quad-core chip, and upcoming AI tools like spoiler-free book summaries.
A community poll of over 2,100 respondents found that more than 70% of Kindle users have either already moved to rivals like Kobo or Boox, or plan to switch on their next upgrade, following Amazon's August update that closed a Libby lending loophole and tightened DRM restrictions on the Kindle Oasis. About 33% said they've already switched, while 37.7% said they intend to leave Amazon's ecosystem for a future device.
