Usual ‘Gremlins’ Rules Don’t Apply With This Precious Lego Gizmo

It’s not easy to make Lego bricks cute. As fun as they can be, there’s no getting away from the fact that they’re hard, plastic pieces. And yet, the team there has somehow done the impossible. They’ve created an official set from the 1984 classic Gremlins of the adorable Gizmo and, in the process, made Lego absolutely precious. Gizmo, which was a Lego Ideas contest winner last year, is now available for pre-order for Lego Insiders with a general on-sale date of October 1. And it truly is an ado

Anthropic Settles With Authors Over Pirated Material: What Does That Mean for Other AI Lawsuits?

Anthropic agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by a group of authors alleging that the AI company illegally pirated their copyrighted books to use in training its Claude AI models. On Tuesday, the parties in the lawsuit filed a motion indicating their agreement with the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals. We don't yet know the terms of the settlement, but we could know more as soon as next week. Justin Nelson, lawyer for the authors, told CNET via email that more information will be announced soon.

Qualcomm’s next Elite processor could have a ridiculously confusing name

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority TL;DR A leaker has claimed that the next Snapdragon 8 Elite chip could be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This is a major departure from the expected Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or 8 Elite Gen 2 names. We’re guessing this is because Qualcomm is readying an apparent Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip as well. Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite late last year, and this represented a change in naming convention after the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. We were expecting the Snap

Shadow IT Is Expanding Your Attack Surface. Here’s Proof

Shadow IT - the systems your security team doesn’t know about - is a persistent challenge. Policies may ban them, but unmanaged assets inevitably slip through. And if defenders don’t uncover them first, there’s always a risk attackers will. With just a few days of effort, Intruder’s security team uncovered multiple real-world examples of Shadow IT exposures: unsecured backups, open Git repositories, unauthenticated admin panels, and more. Every one of them contained highly sensitive data or cr

How to disable ACR on your TV - and why it makes such a big difference

Adam Breeden/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. Did you know that whenever you turn on your smart TV, you invite an unseen guest to watch it with you? These days, most popular TV models utilize automatic content recognition (ACR), a form of ad surveillance technology that gathers information about everything you watch and transmits it to a centralized database. Manufacturers then use your data to identify your viewing preferences, enabling them to deliver highly targe

I changed these 12 settings on my Android phone to greatly extend its battery life

Kerry Wan/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. I've spent large portions of my life looking for ways to extend the battery life on my Android phones. Admittedly, that sounds rather dramatic, but growing up with only budget models meant I was constantly tweaking device settings to squeeze every bit of juice out of their batteries. Thanks to this micromanaging, I successfully pushed the batteries on all my past smartphones to their absolute limit. I don't want to hoard th

If This Is the Price of Samsung’s Vision Pro Killer, It’s Still Too Much

Samsung’s first-ever XR headset, Project Moohan, is finally inching towards launch, and there could be good and bad news for anyone dying to know where it fits on the price spectrum. The good news? According to leaks from a Korean news outlet, Newsworks, Project Moohan will cost less than Apple’s wildly expensive Vision Pro, which debuted at $3,500. Phew! Price crisis averted, right? Wrong. Leaks suggest that the headset will still cost close to $2,000, with current conversions from Korean won t

Implementing Forth in Go and C

I first ran into Forth about 20 years ago when reading a book about designing embedded hardware. The reason I got the book back then was to actually learn more about the HW aspects, so having skimmed the Forth chapter I just registered an "oh, this is neat" mental note and moved on with my life. Over the last two decades I heard about Forth a few more times here and there, such as that time when Factor was talked about for a brief period, maybe 10-12 years ago or so. It always occupied a slot i

Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action

Authors are celebrating a "historic" settlement expected to be reached soon in a class-action lawsuit over Anthropic's AI training data. Just bought a new Galaxy foldable? Watch out for this alert-hiding bug

Paul Jones / Android Authority TL;DR The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 suffer from a Do Not Disturb bug. Custom Do Not Disturb settings can reset automatically, removing your call or notification filters. A fix exists for the Galaxy S25 series in One UI 8 beta 5, but not yet for the Fold 7 or Flip 7. Elon Musk Settles Case With Former Twitter Employees Who Were Purged

One of China’s Largest Tech Companies Just Copied Apple’s Biggest Flop

Apple has had some misses in the past (looking at you, G4 Cube), but in recent times, arguably no piece of hardware has been a bigger flop than the Vision Pro. But just because sales for Apple’s $3,500 face computer have been tepid at best hasn’t stopped competitors from conjuring up their own lookalikes. That includes Samsung and its upcoming Project Moohan headset running Android XR, and now, an almost laughably close lookalike out of China from smartphone maker Vivo. If Project Moohan takes
