Trump says Xi approves of TikTok deal as leaders plan South Korea meeting

Trump says Xi approves of TikTok deal as leaders plan South Korea meeting TikTok, which is run by Chinese firm Bytedance, was previously told it had to sell its US operations or risk being shut down. Trump wrote on Truth Social the call was "productive" and he "appreciated" Xi's approval of deal, which would reportedly see TikTok's US business sold to a group of US investors. The president announced he will meet Xi at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea next month, add

Gemini Pro just gained a feature ChatGPT can’t easily copy

Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR Google now lets you share your custom Gems with others. Sharing works just like Google Drive, with options to view, edit, or share via a link. Gems are limited to Gemini Pro subscribers, but this shareability gives them an edge on ChatGPT Projects. If you’ve used the paid versions of both Gemini and ChatGPT, you’ll know that Gems and Projects are pretty similar. They let you set up a custom space that remembers your instructions and style within that are

Your Google TV home screen might finally be about to get a long-overdue refresh

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Google TV is testing a refreshed home screen layout with new navigation bubbles. The redesign renames “For You” as “Home” and adds more shortcuts to the profile menu. Only a small number of devices seem to have the update so far. Google TV hasn’t been having the best luck in the crowded smart TV market recently. With relatively low adoption in the US and advertisers favoring YouTube instead, Google seems to be rethinking parts of the TV platform, sta

You don’t have to wait for Microsoft’s handheld to start using the new Xbox mode

Nick Fernandez / Android Authority TL;DR Windows handheld PC owners have found a way to get Microsoft’s new Xbox mode running early on their devices. Xbox mode frees up about 2GB of memory that can be used for gaming. You’ll launch straight into the Xbox app with your full library of PC games from Steam, Battle.net, Epic, and other storefronts. About a month from now, Microsoft will be launching its ROG Xbox Ally devices. These Xbox-branded gaming handhelds are technically supposed to be the

Apple’s new Home products just got even more appealing thanks to a competitor

Apple is about to kick off what’s arguably its first serious push into smart home products, starting with two launches very soon but ramping up in 2026. And Samsung just provided users another great reason to wait for Apple’s products. Apple rumored to be expanding Home product offerings Apple’s efforts in the smart home space have seemed, for a long time, more like a hobby than a serious product line. I’m a fan of the Apple TV 4K and HomePod, but outside of those two products, Apple has larg

The Actual Thing People Are Excited About for ‘Tron: Ares’ Is Here

In the music community, Fridays are known for new song releases, and this Friday is no exception. In fact, today marks the release of Nine Inch Nails’ soundtrack for Tron: Ares, an album that has inarguably generated considerably more hype than the Jared Leto-led film itself. In tandem with the release of the Tron: Ares original motion picture soundtrack on streaming platforms as well as the band’s official YouTube channel, Disney released a featurette promoting the film. The featurette include

Trump Gives Suspiciously Vague Update on TikTok Deal

On Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that negotiators from the U.S. and China had agreed on a “framework” for a deal that would give an American company control of TikTok. And while most people assumed we would hear about the details this week, we’ve arrived at Friday, and it’s still unclear what might be happening with the video-sharing platform. President Donald Trump held a call with President Xi Jinping of China on Friday to discuss a range of topics. Trump mentioned TikTok

Trump and Xi to meet in South Korea as TikTok deal approved

Trump and Xi to meet in South Korea as TikTok deal approved Trump, however, delayed implementing the ban four times since it was first announced in January, and earlier this week extended the deadline again to December. TikTok, which is run by Chinese firm Bytedance, was previously told it had to sell its US operations or risk being shut down. Trump wrote on Truth Social the call was "productive" and the approval was "appreciated", adding that he would travel to China next year after the two

Revamping an Old TV as a Gift (2019)

This entry is a summary of what I built for my dad's 50th birthday, in 2017. The plan was to get a vintage TV to play some shows from the 70s-80s, and operation should be seamless. The sacrificial lamb, found in the flea market: The tiny sticker says "It works" With the lid off The tuner The attack plan: Getting the raspberry pi to output video to the TV Because the raspberry only outputs composite video, I needed a 'composite RF modulator' that'd convert the signal to a format that this

Pasta Sauce Physics, Eating Teflon, and Drunk Bats: The 2025 Ig Nobel Prizes Celebrate the Joy of Offbeat Science

The 2025 Nobel Prizes will be announced in early October. But if you’re like me, a science aficionado with an insatiable desire for ridiculous, intelligent research, yesterday’s parody of the prestigious prize may be of more interest. I am talking, of course, about the 35th Ig Nobel Prizes—an annual ceremony highlighting the weirdest research across all scientific disciplines. As always, the 10 prizes were selected by the Annals of Improbable Research magazine and presented by “a gaggle of bemu

The New iPhone Air Is Slim, but Your Chances of Dropping It Aren't. Grab a Case Before It's Too Late

Apple unveiled its iPhone 17 lineup earlier this month during the Apple event, and the launch did not disappoint. The new iPhones went on sale Friday, whether you're after the base iPhone 17, the new iPhone Air, the 17 Pro or the larger 17 Pro Max. As beautiful as a naked iPhone looks, protecting your new device is essential. Many of your favorite brands, such as Otterbox, Burga, Casetify and more, have released a swath of new cases for the latest iPhone models. Apple has dropped a line of case

The 9 Best Grills of 2025

Frequently Asked Questions What Should You Look for in a Grill? AccordionItemContainerButton LargeChevron Take a trip to your local big-box home improvement store and you'll see dozens of grill models not mentioned here. Are they any good? Most of them are probably fine, but we suggest sticking with brands you recognize. The nice thing about shopping in person is you can get a better sense of the grill's sturdiness. Give it a good shake, and make sure it seems well put together. If it's a brand

Meta CTO explains why the smart glasses demos failed at Meta Connect — and it wasn’t the Wi-Fi

Meta chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth took to his Instagram to explain, in more technical detail, why multiple demos of Meta’s new smart glasses technology failed at Meta Connect, the company’s developer conference, this week. Meta on Wednesday introduced three new pairs of smart glasses, including an upgraded version of its existing Ray-Ban Meta, a new Meta Ray-Ban Display that comes with a wristband controller, and the sports-focused Oakley Meta Vanguard. However, at different points

Dark Smoke Billows After Horrific Collision Between Flying Cars

Ouch. Two flying cars collided with each other during an airshow rehearsal in Changchun, a city in northeastern China. Videos on social media show emergency response vehicles at the scene as a big plume of dark smoke billows from one of the wrecks. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like anybody involved in the crash between the two electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, developed by the Xpeng AeroHT subsidiary of EV giant Xpeng, was seriously hurt. However, one unnamed company

The headphones will launch on September 29. Nothing released its first pair of headphones earlier this year, called the “Headphone 1.” Now the company’s sub-brand, CMF, is about to launch a pair of headphones as well. Through a couple of teasers, we now have our first look at the device. Don’t want to miss the best from And

CISA exposes malware kits deployed in Ivanti EPMM attacks

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has published an analysis of the malware deployed in attacks exploiting vulnerabilities affecting Ivanti Endpoint Manager Mobile (EPMM). The flaws are an authentication bypass in EPMM’s API component (CVE-2025-4427) and a code injection vulnerability (CVE-2025-4428) that allows execution of arbitrary code. Slow Liquid

September 18, 2025 After updating to iOS 26, I will add my voice to the chorus of dismay: this thing makes my phone run like shit! I recognize that mine isn’t the latest and greatest, but it’s only four years old — an iPhone 13 mini — and the previous iOS ran perfectly: snappy and practical. I hope Apple can (literally) smooth things out. I realize there’s always an undercurrent to these releases of “maybe you should get a new phone … ” but in this case the performance hit feels either (1

Trump’s Golden Dome Projected to Cost Exponentially More Than the Manhattan Project

Donald Trump has many grand plans for America, one of the more ambitious of which is to create a giant invisible space shield that theoretically protects the country from rockets. In January, Trump announced, via executive order, the creation of a “Golden Dome,” designed to protect Americans from the “threat of attack by ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles, and other advanced aerial attacks.” The project, Trump said, would use a network of satellites to detect and repel aerial attacks on

The Eagles Come Home to Roost in the Most Screwball ‘Peacemaker’ Yet

Peacemaker season two is trucking right along, picking up from its last episode’s big cliffhanger, suspending the situationship of Christopher Smith and Emilia Harcourt for an entire week before viewers can see how the chips will fall. Will Eagly make it out okay? Does bird blindness have a cure? Will the shoe ever drop on the long-held fan theory that Chris’ “best dimension ever” is actually a Nazi dimension? Seeing as how writer-director James Gunn has kept mum about every episode beyond this

Tropical Storm Gabrielle Breaks ‘Unprecedented’ Atlantic Storm Drought

An exceptionally long lull in Atlantic storm activity finally came to an end Wednesday as Tropical Storm Gabrielle took shape. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center expect this storm to strengthen into the second hurricane of the season by Sunday. Gabrielle’s emergence followed 20 days of no named storms in the Atlantic basin—a dry spell that WPLG-TV hurricane specialist Michael Lowry called “unprecedented” for the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. As of Friday morning, Gabrielle ha

New iPhone 17 or Air on Your Radar? Get Ready for These Prices Today

As the newest iPhones hit the shelves today, the Apple faithful can count their blessings that they aren't paying more for the new phones. iPhones have never been cheap, but it was pretty clear when the prices for the new iPhone 17 lineup were revealed at Apple's fall iPhone event earlier this month that they could have gotten worse, considering the year of tariffs and other economic turmoil. CNET senior editor James Bricknell wasn't surprised by the iPhone prices. "Given the tariffs and all t

If iOS 26 is Draining Your iPhone's Battery, Apple Says It's Temporary

Apple released iOS 26 on Sept. 15, a few months after the company announced this year's iPhone software at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The update brings a lot of new features to your iPhone, like call screening, as well as a new Liquid Glass redesign. And Apple wrote online that if you download the update and notice your device's battery is draining faster than usual, that's normal and -- most important -- temporary. Apple CEO Tim Cook says iPhone price hikes are not tied to tariffs

Apple CEO Tim Cook said price hikes on the newest iPhone models aren't tied to President Donald Trump's sweeping tariff plans. "There's no increase for tariffs in the prices to be totally clear," Cook told CNBC's Jim Cramer from Apple's Fifth Avenue store location in New York City, as the latest iPhone model launched in stores worldwide. It is one of the first instances in which Cook has decisively addressed tariffs in relation to iPhone prices. Earlier this month, Apple increased the price o
