In Disturbing Demo, AI-Powered Video Game Characters Panic When Told They're Just Code

Last month, the union SAG-AFTRA, which represents video game performers and other actors, ended a nearly yearlong strike with a tentative agreement on "guardrails" against the use of artificial intelligence. The gaming industry has been in disarray, with publishers chomping at the bit to start harnessing AI to augment — or, realistically, replace — the jobs of voice actors and writers. And we're not just talking about scripts or voice lines generated by an algorithm. In the not-so-distant futu

DJI Osmo 360 review: A capable action cam that's a real threat to Insta360

DJI is finally taking on rising rival Insta360 with its first panoramic action camera, the Osmo 360. The company dug into its deep engineering toolkit in an effort to one-up the competition with features like a new sensor design, up to 8K 50 fps 10-bit log recording and a smaller, lighter body. It also matches or beats its rival in other areas, with similar battery life and superior low-light capability. After testing the device in various scenarios like riding around on an e-bike, I’m impresse

Mark Zuckerberg Looks Like He's Been Taken Hostage as He Explains Plan for Deploying AI Superintelligence

Meta CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg is no stranger to bizarre videos. From the infamous clip where he declares his love for "Sweet Baby Ray's" barbecue sauce to the time he was recorded taking a Turing test, the tech founder has long found himself in awkward positions on camera. Still, none in recent memory can compare to a new video plugging Meta's so-called Superintelligence AI lab, which sees the newly dripped-out CEO stare directly into the camera — and, perhaps, through our souls — as he

A guide to using Edits, Meta’s CapCut rival for short-form video editing

Meta recently released a new video editing app for creators called Edits. The new app is designed to rival ByteDance’s CapCut, a popular short-form video-editing app used by many creators. Meta first shared that it was working on Edits back in January after ByteDance-owned CapCut was removed from U.S. app stores when the TikTok ban momentarily went into effect. Although the app has since come back online and is available to download, TikTok’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain, so Meta is rea

Flickering lights could help fight misinformation

A group of Cornell computer scientists has unveiled what they believe could be a new tool in the fight against AI‑generated video, deepfakes and doctored clips. The watermarking technique, called “noise‑coded illumination,” hides verification data in light itself to help investigators spot doctored videos. The approach, devised by Peter Michael, Zekun Hao, Serge Belongie and assistant professor Abe Davis, was published in the June 27 issue of ACM Transactions on Graphics and will be presented b

YouTube is thinking about letting you avoid video comments entirely on mobile

Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR YouTube is testing a new mobile UI that hides several elements below the video player, including the channel name and comments section. Tapping a new dropdown arrow next to the video’s title reveals the hidden information, such as the creator’s channel details and subscriber count. This change declutters the screen to show more related videos, but adds an extra tap for users who want to read comments or visit the creator’s channel. To stay ahead of the co

YouTube loosens profanity rules for monetized videos

YouTube is tweaking its profanity-related rules to allow creators to monetize videos with swearing in them, provided the profanity is contained to the first seven seconds of the video. In November 2022, YouTube changed its rules so that creators who used swear words in the first 8-15 seconds would potentially be ineligible for any ad revenue. After much backlash, the company changed its rules again in March 2023 so that such videos would be eligible for limited ad revenue, unless they use profa

YouTube will no longer limit ads on videos that drop the f-bomb early

In a video announcement, YouTube's head of monetization, Conor Kavanagh, said that videos containing stronger profanity such as f-bombs in the first seven seconds are now eligible for full monetization. In 2022, YouTube introduced a policy that would flag videos using profane language in the first several seconds as ineligible for advertising. It relaxed that rule a bit in 2023.

Real life or AI? Watch these videos and see if you can spot the difference

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority Having spent some time with generative AI, I thought I had a fair idea of what to expect from Veo 3 — Google’s cutting-edge AI video generator. But when I finally ponied up the $20 for a Google AI Pro subscription a few weeks ago, I was surprised to find that it outperformed even my most optimistic expectations. Unlike early AI image generators that would produce obvious deformities like extra fingers or absurd architecture, Google’s Veo 3 can generate videos

YouTube makes it easy for TV users to skip to the best bits of videos

The FBI Is Reportedly Holding the Missing Footage From Outside Epstein's Cell

Despite official insistence to the contrary, insiders say that the US government is in possession of the "missing minute" from the footage outside of Jeffrey Epstein's Manhattan jail cell when the infamous pedophile died. Juggalos Not Happy as Insane Clown Posse Releases AI-Generated Video

Of all the musical fandoms out there, Insane Clown Posse's juggalos are among the most loyal. For decades, the community has rallied around musicians Joe "Violent J" Bruce and Joey "Shaggy 2 Dope" Utsler to form one of the most fascinating and scrutinized musical subcultures of our time. That makes it all the more noteworthy that juggalos are becoming incensed about their favorite duo's use of generative AI. In a teaser video for ICP's upcoming album, "The Naught," some eagle-eyed juggalos spo

DOJ Has a Copy of the Epstein Jail Video With the ‘Missing Minute’: Report

When the U.S. Department of Justice released a nearly 11-hour video in early July that purported to show the last time Jeffrey Epstein was seen alive, people couldn’t help but notice that there was a full minute missing. Attorney General Pam Bondi insisted there was a simple explanation: That’s just how the jail’s antiquated camera systems work. But a new report claims Bondi isn’t telling the truth. The report from CBS News cites a “government source familiar with the investigation” who told th
