Following a column from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warning that AI systems could escape human control without safeguards, Microsoft published a 'Humanist AI Code of Conduct' and Google DeepMind's CEO signaled agreement on X with calls for stronger oversight. President Trump dismissed calls for tighter AI regulation, saying winning the AI race against China matters more, according to reported remarks.

Trump tells UN he opposes AI regulation, compares it favorably to climate policy

In a speech to the UN General Assembly, President Trump rejected any global effort to regulate artificial intelligence, arguing that the lack of strict climate regulation has worked out fine and using that as reasoning against AI oversight. He also said he wants to rename artificial intelligence as 'super intelligence,' claiming the word 'artificial' makes it sound 'fake.'

RMD age set to rise to 75 by 2033 as retirees face 2026 distribution rules

Required minimum distributions from retirement accounts remain a tax concern for high-income retirees in 2026, since the withdrawals count as ordinary income and can increase taxes on Social Security benefits and Medicare premiums. The RMD starting age, which was 70.5 through 2019, has already risen to 72 under the original Secure Act and to 73 under Secure 2.0, and is scheduled to reach 75 by 2033.

Toyota to deploy 400,000 factory robots by 2028, starts training them with workers

Toyota plans to invest $6.42 billion annually beginning in 2028 to add 150,000 robots at its own auto plants and 250,000 more at group facilities making parts and materials, according to Nikkei Asia. Workers are already helping train Toyota's wheeled ELEY humanoid robots by wearing finger-shaped jigs to teach precise hand movements. Executive vice president Hiroki Nakajima said the goal is for robots to coexist with humans rather than replace them.

Oatly's creative director says the company deliberately skips a brand book

Oatly creative director Michael Lee says the company has long refused to create a standard brand book, the style guide most large companies use to keep messaging consistent. He says new creative hires are told to 'unlearn everything you know about marketing,' and the company instead gives its creative team unusual autonomy to write and execute its own briefs. Oatly's shift traces back to 2012, when new CEO Toni Petersson and creative chief John Schoolcraft rebuilt the marketing department around creatives rather than traditional marketing structures.

Entrepreneur op-ed argues website design draws on centuries-old visual principles

An Entrepreneur contributor argues that modern website design relies on the same principles used in manuscripts, maps and architecture long before the internet existed—hierarchy, imagery, patterns and spatial organization that help people find meaning quickly. The piece contends that clarity, familiar navigation patterns and purposeful imagery are structural necessities rather than stylistic choices.

Nottingham NHS Trust loses 11 years of maternity record access logs to IT error

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust revealed that a technician's mistake on August 18 overwrote its maternity records database while attempting to copy a radiotherapy database for reporting purposes. The error used outdated instructions meant for another system, and a setting that should have been updated was missed, causing the maternity database covering September 2011 to November 2022 to be wiped instead. While clinical notes, test results and observations were largely recovered, the trust says it cannot restore full logs showing who accessed maternity records during that 11-year period.

New open-source tool treepeat detects duplicate code via Tree-sitter parsing

A developer released treepeat, a Python-installable tool that scans codebases for duplicate and near-duplicate code using Tree-sitter AST analysis and locality-sensitive hashing. It offers three normalization modes ranging from exact duplicate detection to loose structural similarity matching, and currently supports 15 languages including Python, JavaScript, Go, Rust and Java. The creator describes it as a proof of concept and is soliciting community contributions to expand language support.
