A statistical analysis of Rotten Tomatoes

Intro: Why Is Everything "Certified Fresh"? I stayed in a hotel recently, which means I watched cable television, which means I consumed commercials that I could not skip—and some of these commercials advertised upcoming movie releases. Promo after promo, I noticed an unmistakable pattern: every film was "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes, with this seal of approval serving as the ad's climactic selling point. After five days of "Certified Fresh" movie propaganda, I began to grow suspicious.

Hundreds of Thousands of User Chats With AI Chatbot Grok Are Now Public

Does what's said between you and your AI chat stay between you and your AI chat? Nope. According to a report by Forbes, Elon Musk's AI assistant Grok published more than 370,000 chats on the Grok website. Those URLs, which were not necessarily intended for public consumption by users, were then indexed by search engines and entered the public sphere. It wasn't just chats. Forbes reported that uploaded documents, such as photos, spreadsheets and other documents, were also published. Representa

Google finally lets you customize icon shapes on your Pixel’s home screen

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority TL;DR You can now customize icon shapes on your Pixel Launcher’s home screen. Android will give you five options. Including the default circle, there’s square, four-sided cookie, seven-sided cookie, and arch. These options are currently only available in the August 2025 Android Canary release, but we expect it won’t be long before they make their way into the QPR2 track. Hot off the heels of the Pixel 10 launch, Google unveiled a new Android Canary release.

Guillermo del Toro Explains Why His Frankenstein’s Monster Looks So Unique

Clearly, we’re all very, very excited about Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which is coming to theaters on October 17 before arriving on Netflix on November 7. That’s because it’s del Toro, one of our most beloved filmmakers; his cast is incredible; and there has rarely been a better pairing of filmmaker and subject matter. One other thing has us hyped up too, and that’s Frankenstein’s monster. Del Toro loves a monster and, in a new interview, he talks about how he approached his monster diff

Android finally lets you control your Pixel phone’s flashlight brightness

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority TL;DR Android has finally added native flashlight brightness controls from the Quick Settings panel. Google added support for controlling the flashlight brightness in Android 13, but there was no way to do so from Quick Settings. This feature is available in the latest August 2025 Android Canary release and may arrive in Android 16 QPR2. If you’re looking for something under a couch, bed, or other dimly lit area, then your phone’s built-in flashlight will c

The Pixel 10 Pro has the display upgrade your poor eyes have been begging for

Rita El Khoury / Android Authority TL;DR The Pixel 10 Pro series introduces a new “sensitive eyes” setting that doubles its display PWM rate to 480Hz. The option is limited to the Pro models, with partial support on the Pro Fold, and none on the base Pixel 10. This is Google’s first significant step toward helping flicker-sensitive users, but it could go further. OLED screens are great for deep blacks and rich colors, but they also have a hidden flicker problem. It’s caused by PWM dimming, w

Google’s not done yet, with a new Android Canary release arriving for testers

Adamya Sharma / Android Authority TL;DR Google started its Android Canary program earlier this summer. So far that’s meant a new Canary release on roughly a monthly cadence. Today Android Canary 2508 has landed for users interested in trying it out. Google, you do know that other days of the week exist, right? Because so far this Wednesday, Google has been getting stuff done like it’s planning to shut down operation at the end of the day ahead of a nice, long four-day weekend. A few hours ba

Here are all the Android phones that support Qi2

The Qi2 wireless charging spec was originally announced back in early 2023. However, Android phone makers haven’t exactly been rushing to add Qi2 support to their latest devices since then. That’s made finding a compatible handset rather difficult, which is a bummer for anyone who has seen the wealth of accessories and power banks that iPhone owners have had access to for several generations. On top of faster charging speeds (up to 25 watts or higher in later revisions), Qi2 dictates the inclus

I went hands-on with every Google Pixel 10 phone, and this model stole my heart

Introduction to AT Protocol

Some time ago I wrote a long blog post I called “Complete guide to Bluesky”, which explains how all the user-facing features of Bluesky work and various tips and tricks. This one is meant to be a bit like a developer version of that – I want to explain in hopefully understandable language what all the pieces of the network architecture are and how they all fit together. I hope this will let you understand better how Bluesky and the underlying protocol works, and how it differs from e.g. the Fedi

Android will finally fix your messy home screen by forcing apps to use themed icons

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority TL;DR Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 offers improved support for themed app icons. For apps that don’t natively offer a monochrome icon, QPR2 lets the system automatically generate one for theming purposes. A new “Create” option also appears for icon theming, which may be related to in-development AI-powered tools. You may have thought today was going to be all about the Pixel 10 and Google’s latest hardware, but that has only been the start of things. No sooner di

Google is expanding a key anti-theft feature to make your apps more secure

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR Android’s Identity Check feature is being expanded in the upcoming Android 16 QPR2 update to better protect your sensitive apps. The feature will now enforce biometric-only authentication for any app that uses the biometric prompt, removing the screen lock credential as a fallback. This optional security measure will prevent thieves who know your PIN from accessing sensitive apps when you’re outside of a trusted location. Late last year, Google announc

Amazon could shake up the tablet market with a higher-end model running real Android

Amazon TL;DR Amazon is reportedly working on a higher-end Android tablet codenamed Kittyhawk. Sources claim that the company is tossing around the idea of a $400 price tag. It’s said there are still plans to launch some lower-priced tablets that run on Vega OS, but its full slate will eventually be powered by a version of Android. Many of Amazon’s products use a forked version of Android called Fire OS. However, the company has long been trying to separate its products from Google’s operatin

Even though the Pixel 10 leaks and rumors felt as if they arrived in a steady firehose before today's Made by Google event -- compelling the company to release a teaser video pre-announcing the new phone's existence a month ago -- Google still delivered details it somehow managed to keep private until it was ready to share. Pixel 10 Pro vs Galaxy S25 Ultra: I know which one I’d get

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is the smartphone equivalent of an all-inclusive holiday and costs about as much. Packing a massive screen, an impressive camera array, and plenty of push for even the pickiest power user, it’s not a smartphone you simply settle on. But, flagship devices only have a brief time in the sun before something new and potentially better comes along. The latest pretender is from Google and is in the form of the Pixel 10 Pro. Google’s Pixel 10 series has inspired various views from me and my colleagues, even weeks before its official launch. There’s little doubt that the company smashed the copy-paste shortcut when designing the Pixel 9 line successor, and for some, this similar aesthetic just isn’t good enough. However, you’ll notice a few standout additions and improvements if you peer deeper into the Pixel 10 trio’s specs sheets and feature files.
