Teslas get a bad rap these days. Aside from the whole Elon Musk thing, the electric vehicles are becoming notorious for shoddy construction, massive consumer recalls, and sketchy self-driving software. There is, however, one thing Teslas seem to excel at: mowing down motorcyclists. According to a new analysis by FuelArc, Teslas have a totally unique propensity for plowing over motorcyclists among self-driving cars — supporting a belief among some motorcyclists that Teslas are particularly dang

Elon Musk has been promising investors for about a decade that Tesla's cars are on the verge of turning into robotaxis, capable of driving themselves cross-country, after one big software update. That hasn't happened yet. What Tesla offers is a sophisticated, but only partially automated, driving system that's marketed in the U.S. as its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) option, though many Tesla fans refer to it as FSD. In China, Tesla recently changed the system's name to "intelligent assisted

Tesla's horrendous first quarter numbers have some of its backers rethinking a few things. Namely, their CEO Elon Musk, whose once immense starpower is now inverting on itself. Still haunted by last year's sales slump — the first annual drop in its history — Tesla has kicked off 2025 with a worrying omen that it may repeat the unwanted feat: a 13 percent drop in first-quarter deliveries. As the company faces widespread protests fueled by anti-Musk sentiment, the diagnosis is obvious. "This is

It's no secret that "driving while black" is a real phenomenon. Study after study has shown that minority drivers are ticketed at a higher rate, and data from speed cameras suggests that it's not because they commit traffic violations more frequently. But this leaves open the question of why. Bias is an obvious answer, but it's hard to eliminate an alternative explanation: Minority groups may engage in more unsafe driving, and the police are trying to deter that. But now, Lyft has given a group

I felt the car tires lose grip on the surface of the frozen lake and my car start to spin out. I knew I'd pushed it too far. Despite the advice I'd been given, I entered the corner too fast and hit the brakes too late. I thought I had the driving talent to hold the slide I was now in, but physics had other ideas. Instead of my planned smooth drift across the ice, the car went into a full 360-degree spin that sent me off the track and into a deep snow ditch. Thankfully, the powdery snow that cus

Despite many misconceptions, driving an electric vehicle in winter conditions can be easy and just as enjoyable as driving a gas-powered car. To prove this, I went to the frozen north of Sweden where I spent days driving Volvo's EVs on frozen lakes and down snow-covered roads. The reality is that all cars, no matter what powers them, struggle more in cold conditions. While EV batteries can be less efficient at lower temperatures, modern EV tech is going a long way to making up for it. Most mod

That is, if Wayve sticks to its strategy of ensuring its automated driving software is cheap to run, hardware agnostic, and can be applied to advanced driver-assistance systems, robotaxis, and even robotics. The strategy, which Kendall laid out during Nvidia’s GTC conference, begins with an end-to-end data-driven learning approach. This means that what the system “sees” through a vari
