Meta is struggling to rein in its AI chatbots

Meta is changing some of the rules governing its chatbots two weeks after a Reuters investigation revealed disturbing ways in which they could, potentially, interact with minors. Now the company has told TechCrunch that its chatbots are being trained not to engage in conversations with minors around self-harm, suicide, or disordered eating, and to avoid inappropriate romantic banter. These changes are interim measures, however, put in place while the company works on new permanent guidelines. T

The unauthorized chatbots that Reuters discovered during its investigation included Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson, and they were available on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. At least one of the chatbots was based on an underage celebrity and allowed the tester to generate a lifelike shirtless image of the real person. Nvidia said to be developing new, more powerful AI chip for sale in China

The world’s most valuable chipmaker is far from giving up its desire to retain China as a key growth market. Nvidia is apparently putting together a new AI chip meant for sale in China that’s half as powerful as its flagship B300 Blackwell GPU, Reuters reported, citing anonymous sources. This new chip, codenamed B30A, would be more powerful than the H20 GPUs the company is currently allowed to sell to China, the report said, though its design will be single-die in nature, unlike the dual-die de

Original Tesla Founder Is Sad That Musk Made a ‘Truck That Looks Like a Dumpster’

Unbeknownst to much of the public, Elon Musk did not actually start Tesla. Indeed, Musk was actually the company’s 4th CEO when he initially joined the company way back in 2008. While Musk can be credited with substantially transforming the firm and its offerings, its original co-founders, Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, launched Tesla in 2003. Musk and those original executives have had their tussles over the years. In fact, tensions between Musk and Eberhard led to a 2009 lawsuit and set

Large Law Firm Sends Panicked Email as It Realizes Its Attorneys Have Been Using AI to Prepare Court Documents

The law firm Morgan & Morgan has rushed out a stern email to its attorneys after two of them were caught citing fake court cases invented by an AI model, Reuters reports. Sent earlier this month to all of its over 1,000 lawyers, the email warns at length about the tech's proclivity for hallucinating. But the pros of the tech, apparently, still outweigh the cons; rather than banning AI usage — something that plenty of organizations have done — Morgan & Morgan leadership take the middle road and
