Apple has simplified the battery replacement process and is selling the battery through its Self Service Repair Store, complete with an updated step-by-step guide. Here are the details.

Replacing the battery now means replacing just the battery

Last October, when iFixit published its teardown of the 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro, it made a point to highlight the fact that battery replacement was one of the most challenging repairability aspects of the device, as it involved swapping out several internal components.

For reference, here is iFixIt’s teardown. It covers the battery design starting at the 1:28 mark, with additional details again at 5:14.

Today, Apple is addressing this critical sticking point with the announcement of a new battery replacement process that no longer requires users to remove other modules from their 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro beyond the bottom case.

Additionally, Apple is now selling these batteries as standalone modules through its Self Service Repair Store, where users can also find the necessary tools to follow Apple’s official repair method.

And speaking of Apple’s official repair method, the company also published a new repair manual today, reflecting the new, simplified battery replacement procedure.

The manual features a detailed step-by-step guide to assist users who decide to tackle battery replacement on their own, as well as independent repair shops, which also rely heavily on this sort of material.

You can find the new standalone battery module for the 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro here, and you can find the new repair manual here.
