iPhone 17 Pro issue causing speaker hiss for some users when charging

It’s not uncommon for new iPhone models to introduce issues for a small subset of users. With iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, it seems a number of users have encountered a strange speaker hiss when charging.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max users report unexpected noise when charging

Shortly after iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max launched, some users grew concerned about the product’s durability due to scratches observed at Apple Stores. That turned out to be a non-issue, with Apple tweaking its display setups to mitigate the transfer of materials from MagSafe stands to the backs of iPhones.

But today at MacRumors, Juli Clover reports on another potential iPhone 17 Pro issue: a “static or hissing noise that occurs when the iPhone is charging.”

There are multiple discussions about the issue on Reddit, the MacRumors forums, and Apple’s Support Community, where affected users say there is a noticeable static noise “like an old radio.” Some people report hearing it when playing audio and turning the volume down, while others say the static is audible without anything playing from the speakers. In some cases, there is a low crackle or a hiss when scrolling through webpages when the ‌iPhone‌ is charging, and some people hear the noise at low volumes even when the ‌iPhone‌ isn’t on a charger.

Reports about the speaker issue seem to vary when it comes to the severity of the problem. But one of the more extreme cases can be seen (and heard) via this user video.

So far, users who reported the speaker problem back in September seem to still be encountering the issue as of iOS 26.2. And while some have had the issue resolved by swapping their iPhone for a new model, for others the problem has persisted across multiple models.

It’s possible iOS 26.3 will fix the issue when it launches—a release is expected in just a few weeks. However, there doesn’t appear to be evidence of a fix coming just yet.
