The book-style folding smartphone market continues to grow ahead of the expected launch of the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra later this year. We’ve so far seen models from Oppo, Huawei and Samsung, with a new Motorola device available soon.

We already knew a lot of details about the Motorola Razr Fold, but this now includes the price and launch date in the US …

Samsung has so far been the main player in the so-called book-style folding phone market, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 its latest model. “Book-style” means that the folded device has a similar size to a conventional phone and then opens up into a (smallish) tablet-sized screen.

The upcoming launch of the Motorola Razr Fold has been no secret. Our sister site 9to5Google got a hands-on with it almost two months ago. What we didn’t know was when it would go on sale in the US and at what price. Those details have now been revealed.

Pre-orders open on May 14, with delivery on May 21. Pricing is $1,899, which sits between the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Ben Shoon uses Samsung’s foldable as his daily driver but says that the Razr Fold offers a good balance of feature set and simplicity.

Motorola, with the Razr Fold, has built out an experience that feels very clean yet quite feature-packed. It strikes a really good balance. Like both Google and Samsung devices, the Razr Fold takes full advantage of Android’s tablet/foldable optimizations on that inner display. You get a taskbar (which can be visible at all times both with button and gesture navigation), as well as the ability to quickly drop apps into multitasking split-screen. Beyond that, you can also pose the foldable at an angle to use “laptop mode,” which turns the bottom half of the folded display into a trackpad with a cursor on the top half. Samsung offers the same thing on Galaxy foldables. It really seems like Motorola has nailed the software

Unsurprisingly, the iPhone Ultra is expected to be the most expensive model on the market, with a price of $2,000 or more.
