iPhone 18 Pro Max may not be thicker after all

Why This Matters

The latest leak indicates that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will maintain the same thickness as the iPhone 17 Pro Max at 8.75mm, contradicting earlier predictions of increased size. This suggests that Apple may focus on optimizing internal components like battery capacity without significantly altering the device's form factor. Such developments could influence consumer preferences for performance and portability in upcoming flagship models.

Key Takeaways

Late last year a leaker suggested that the trend of the Pro model iPhones getting thicker would continue with the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

However, a new report today gives the thickness as 8.75mm, which is exactly the same as the iPhone 17 Pro Max …

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max were both thicker and heavier than the previous year’s models. Back in November of last year, leaker Instant Digital said that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be thicker and heavier still.

They said the weight of this year’s Pro Max would exceed 240g, making it the heaviest iPhone yet, and that it would be thicker than that year’s model. They did not, however, give a specific dimension for the depth.

However, fellow leaker Ice Universe disagrees and has today given a depth for the upcoming model of 8.75mm, exactly the same as its predecessor. They haven’t said anything about the weight of the device.

Personally, I’m not overly concerned about relatively small differences in size and weight. So long as it fits comfortably into my various pockets, I’m happy. In particular, I think that battery life is a higher priority than size when it comes to the Pro models.

Earlier reports have suggested that the iPhone 18 Pro Max might get a worthwhile increase in battery capacity, while the non-Max version gets a far more modest one.
