Apple announced its next major iOS update, iOS 27, at WWDC 2026 on Monday. Apple is highlighting performance and design improvements, trust and safety upgrades like a Screen Time redesign, and major upgrades to Siri and Apple Intelligence. The update will be supported all the way back to the iPhone 11.

A big change is an opacity slider for Liquid Glass. Liquid Glass was a major facelift introduced with iOS 26, bringing glassy design elements and adding new animations across the iPhone’s software. From the jump, Liquid Glass had some legibility issues, but Apple tweaked things ahead of releasing the OS publicly in September. With iOS 27, thanks to the new slider, you’ll be able to adjust just how glassy things like tab bars will be.

iOS 27 will also feature the “next generation of Apple Intelligence,” which has a “bold new architecture” and an “all-new Siri.” As part of the new Apple Intelligence features, your devices will have awareness of what’s on your screen.

The new Siri is called “Siri AI,” which Apple says is more conversational. Siri has an updated design, with responses coming in from the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen. There’s a new “voice experience,” and Apple will let you customize Siri’s pace and expressivity. There’s also a dedicated Siri app, which keeps a history of your conversations, and they’re synced with iCloud. The camera app also has a Siri mode, which can recognize objects, tell you about them, and store those conversations in the Siri app. Siri AI will initially be available in English.

Apple is also bringing Apple Intelligence-powered improvements to apps like Safari, Passwords, Messages, and more. For example, Safari can use Apple Intelligence to “tame” a whole bunch of tabs and collect related tabs together. Safari can also monitor pages with a new “Notify Me” feature. With Passwords, Apple Intelligence can automatically update “eligible accounts” with “just a tap.” You’ll also be able to vibe code shortcuts.
