GoKawiiliOS 27.2 beta 1 arrived today, and with it a key new feature for the Apple TV app on iPhone: user profiles.
iOS 27.2 brings Apple TV profiles to iPhone, a great feature for parents
User profiles are a common feature in the streaming era, but Apple TV has been slow to adopt them.
You’ve been able to set up and switch between different profiles in tvOS for a few years now. But it was only last December with tvOS 26.2 that two key upgrades shipped:
the ability to create profiles for users without an Apple Account, like a young child kid profiles being limited to age-appropriate content
Those were great changes that were long overdue. But they only worked on TV-based devices, not more personal products like the iPhone.
iOS 27.2 changes that though, bringing support for Apple TV user profiles to the iPhone.
When you launch the Apple TV app in iOS 27.2 beta 1, you’ll see a screen with existing profiles tied to your account. There’s also the option to add a profile.
And before you ask: there is also a button that reads, ‘Don’t Show This Again.’ So if you never want to use profiles on your iPhone, there’s an easy fix.
Like in tvOS, if you select a child’s profile on your iPhone, their TV app will be limited to only TV shows and movies that match the permitted content rating you’ve specified.
