GoKawiilModded 22GB RTX 2080 Ti tested by PC Games Hardware against stock 11GB card
PC Games Hardware benchmarked a modder-supplied RTX 2080 Ti with VRAM doubled to 22GB against the stock 11GB version across nine memory-intensive games and an AI image-generation task. The extra memory made little difference at 1440p but produced large gains at 4K with upscaling and frame generation in titles like Flight Simulator 2024, where the stock card stuttered or an 11GB card crashed outright in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

The results suggest that extra VRAM on an older GPU mainly prevents failure in worst-case, memory-heavy scenarios rather than improving everyday performance, which could temper expectations around VRAM-mod hype. The comparison also shows a newer 16GB RTX 5070 Ti outperforming the modded 22GB card in AI image generation, indicating that architecture and format support like FP8 can matter more than raw memory capacity for some workloads.
- 22GB mod barely helps at 1440p but closes large gaps at demanding 4K settings
- Only memory-hungry games like Flight Simulator 2024 and Spider-Man 2 benefited from the extra VRAM
- A newer 16GB RTX 5070 Ti beat the modded 22GB 2080 Ti in an AI image-generation test
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super — If you're hunting for VRAM headroom without resorting to risky soldering mods on an aging 2080 Ti, a modern card like the RTX 4070 Super offers ample memory and far better efficiency for today's demanding open-world games. It's a practical upgrade path for the same memory-hungry titles like Flight Simulator 2024 and Spider-Man 2 mentioned in the article, with full warranty support and driver compatibility.
