GoKawiilNetflix rolls out AI Discover tab to surface theme-based show recommendations
Netflix has launched AI Discover, a new tab on its TV app marked by a red gem icon, which suggests shows and movies grouped by themes like mood, viewing length or who you're watching with. Users can refine picks, refresh themes, block titles from being suggested again, and add shows to their list directly from the feature. The rollout starts on supported TVs in English in the US, excluding kids profiles, with wider availability planned over coming weeks.

The move suggests Netflix is trying to tackle a long-standing complaint about decision fatigue when browsing its catalog, which could affect how much time subscribers spend watching versus scrolling. Netflix describes AI Discover as a testbed, implying the company may expand or scrap elements depending on user response before folding it into the core app experience. The use of an 'intelligence layer' that learns from real-time feedback indicates a broader shift toward adaptive, conversational recommendation systems in streaming.
