Patagonia is launching a program that pays people $100 for getting three friends or family members to vote in the upcoming November election. The initiative targets an estimated 11.2 million environmentally minded Americans who skipped the last election, using peer pressure and financial incentive to boost turnout.
States United Action, a nonpartisan election-protection nonprofit, has identified 197 candidates who have denied or questioned the legitimacy of past election results running in congressional and statewide races across 43 states this November. The list includes a sitting member of Congress who voted against certifying the 2020 results, a former state legislator who blended QAnon theories into election denial, and local officials pushing unsubstantiated noncitizen-voting claims.
A Census Bureau report claiming to find 24,000 noncitizen voters in the 2020 election has been shown by a WIRED investigation to rely on faulty data and a rushed approval process. Several of the report's authors have ties to the Trump administration, including a former DOGE affiliate and researchers from the America First Policy Institute. Experts say the numbers likely stem from analytical errors rather than actual instances of illegal voting.
