Bonhams' New York will auction a fully functional Apple-1 motherboard, autographed by Steve Wozniak, as part of its History of Science, Technology & Computing sale running October 4-14. The board, from the second production batch, is estimated to sell for $500,000 to $800,000 and comes with original manuals and a 1978 letter signed by Steve Jobs authorizing a trade-in for the original owner.
A functioning Apple I computer, signed and accompanied by a 1978 letter from Steve Jobs, is heading to auction at Bonhams on October 14. The letter shows Jobs personally offering original owner Charles Hatfield a trade-in for an Apple II board after Hatfield complained about lacking software. Hatfield turned down the offer and instead sold the machine for $40,000, far less than its current value.
RR Auction closed bidding on an 8th-grade science project Steve Jobs built in 1968 exploring the silicon-controlled rectifier, which included two demonstration circuits and a 10-page report. The item, kept for decades by his stepbrother John Chovanec at the Apple Garage property, sold for $34,375 as part of a larger Apple 50th Anniversary auction.
