Apple TV has released the first two episodes of "Brothers," a new comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as fictionalized versions of themselves. The eight-episode season, showrun by Lee Eisenberg, will roll out new episodes weekly through November 4. The plot centers on a rumor that the two lifelong friends might actually be half-brothers, complicated by Matthew's potential run for Governor of Texas.
An investigation by Futurism found that Space Daily, a decades-old space news site now owned by Brown Brothers Media, published articles under invented bylines like 'Dr. Katherine Chen' and 'Dr. James Whitfield,' who were falsely credited with careers at NASA's JPL and the European Space Agency. Neither agency has any record of these people existing, and after being contacted by reporters, Brown Brothers Media began deleting large numbers of articles and the fake author profiles themselves.
A Futurism investigation identified Brown Brothers Media (BBM), a company founded by three brothers, as the owner of a growing collection of websites converted into AI-generated content operations. The network reportedly began with a handful of brands created by the founders and has expanded through acquisitions of struggling publications, including established outlets like Silicon Canals and niche blogs alike. The report alleges the sites use fabricated bylines and invented first-person accounts alongside AI-produced articles.
Brown Brothers Media, run by Justin, Lachlan and Brendan Brown, has been acquiring established online publications covering topics like space travel, parenting and business, then laying off much of their writing staff and replacing them with mass-produced AI-generated articles. The company says its network now draws over 50 million page views monthly, a figure roughly corroborated by third-party analytics firm Similarweb, which estimates about 64.7 million average monthly visitors — putting BBM's reach ahead of outlets like CBS News and Forbes.
Paramount reportedly enlisted a nonprofit called Neighbors for Strong Communities to send Californians mass text messages urging them to pressure state Attorney General Rob Bonta to drop his antitrust suit against the $111 billion Paramount-Warner Bros deal. The messages warned that blocking the merger could cost thousands of jobs, citing owner Larry Ellison's reported threat to relocate Paramount to Texas.
