Amazon is said to be continuing its casting search for the next actor to play James Bond, with several A-list names now reportedly in contention for the role. No final decision or official shortlist has been confirmed.
Jet engine turbine blades are not machined but grown from molten alloy into single crystals, allowing them to endure temperatures above 1,500C inside aircraft engines. Rolls-Royce manufacturing engineer Ben Fifoot describes the slow, controlled cooling process as one of the most complex manufacturing techniques in existence. Only a handful of companies worldwide, including Rolls-Royce, GE and Safran, have mastered the full process, which has been perfected in just five countries.
John Wu, creator of Magisk and a Google employee, said on X that rooting a Googlebook blocks the app-casting feature that lets Android phones send apps to the laptop. He explained the phones refuse to cast because a rooted Googlebook fails hardware key attestation checks. Googlebooks have been on sale for about a month and are marketed partly on this cross-device casting capability.
Google is positioning its new Googlebook laptops around deep integration with Android phones rather than expanded app support alone. Key features include casting phone apps into resizable windows on the laptop, and transferring in-progress tasks like emails or browser tabs from phone to laptop with a single click.
Xinyu Dong, a materials scientist at the National University of Singapore, is adapting freeze casting—a method traditionally used to build ceramic bone-repair scaffolds—to engineer hydrogels with improved structural properties. The technique involves freezing a water-based slurry in a controlled direction so ice crystals push material particles into an organized porous network, which is later preserved after the ice is removed. Dong began this work during her PhD in 2020 and has since extended the approach to aerogels and, in 2024, proposed a new variation of the freeze-casting process for hydrogels.
YouTube has rolled out a companion feature that syncs its mobile app with whatever video is playing on a TV, as long as both devices are signed into the same account. Users can comment, subscribe, search, or browse Shorts on their phone without interrupting the video on screen, and can send videos to the TV directly. The two devices don't even need to share the same Wi-Fi network.
