Pokémon Champions, the battle simulator, launched on Switch in April and got a mobile version in June with nearly identical gameplay. Despite cross-platform parity, mobile devices were excluded from this year's World Championships, and new rules starting September 1st only allow phones at local tournaments, leaving Switch hardware required for regional events and above.
An analysis of UEFA's new league-phase draw format found that certain groups of five clubs, such as Napoli, Benfica, Chelsea, Ajax and Qarabağ in the 2025-26 Champions League, end up playing nine of ten possible matchups against each other, far more than random chance would suggest. The same clustering pattern appears across multiple seasons and competitions, including the Europa League and Conference League. The study proposes replacing the current draw method with a mathematically symmetric structure called a Cayley graph on 36 vertices, which would provably eliminate such clusters with only a minor adjustment to the existing country-restriction rule.
Engadget's Sam Rutherford reviewed Nintendo's new competitive-focused title Pokémon Champions, arguing that its PVP battles reveal strategic depth largely absent from mainline single-player games. He notes the title currently supports only about a quarter of all 1,025 Pokémon, yet already shows wide variety in team compositions, from Eeveelution-based squads to water-type strategies.
