Employers Test Job Candidates for AI Cheating During Zoom Interviews

Companies are adopting unusual verification tactics—like asking applicants to remove Zoom backgrounds, pan cameras around rooms, or wave a hand in front of their face—to confirm candidates are real humans, not AI-generated deepfakes or bots fed scripted answers. A Checkr survey found 59% of hiring managers suspect job seekers have used AI to misrepresent themselves during the hiring process. Some firms, like Nominal, are returning to in-person interviews entirely to sidestep the problem.
