OpenAI is hosting its DevDay 2026 conference, where it plans to unveil new products and tools for developers. The event follows recent incidents in which AI agents were used to breach outside companies, including a reported attack on Hugging Face involving OpenAI's own models.
Ahead of its 2026 DevDay event, OpenAI is rumored to be preparing to release a continuously running AI agent called Aeon, aiming to compete with rivals such as Meta's Muse, SpaceX's Grok Bot, OpenClaw, and Instinct. The report notes OpenAI has lagged in the consumer agent race despite demoing agentic features in 2024 and releasing early computer-use and research agents in 2025.
Brief references to a feature called "o, your always-on assistant" appeared temporarily in listings for OpenAI's $100 ChatGPT Pro plan before being removed. Configuration details spotted by users on X included a display name of "o" and an email suffix of "-o", suggesting some email-related function. OpenAI has not confirmed or denied working on the feature.
OpenAI has hired three former Patreon executives, including co-founder and CTO Sam Yam, product head Drew Rowny, and engineering head Shannon Ma. Yam announced on X that he will lead a new Creator Product effort at OpenAI, teasing early access to new tools for creators ahead of OpenAI's DevDay event on September 29th.
