DJI's Osmo Pocket 3 vlogging camera is currently discounted to $395 from its usual $499 price at Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H Photo. The compact camera is designed for creators who need dedicated video capture beyond what smartphone cameras typically offer.
Insta360 has released two pocket gimbal cameras, the Luna Ultra (June) and Luna Pro (September), both built around a 20mm-equivalent f/1.8 lens on a 1-inch sensor. The Ultra adds a second zoom lens developed with Leica, while the Pro omits it as a cheaper alternative; both compete directly with DJI's Osmo Pocket line.
DJI has released the Dock 4, its first automated battery-swapping drone dock, which can replace a drone's battery in about 25 seconds and return it to flight in under 45 seconds. The system charges two 925g battery packs simultaneously and works exclusively with DJI's Matrice 5TD drone and O4 Ground Station, though it is not FCC-authorized for U.S. sale.
Sony has unveiled the ECM-W5, a $400 wireless microphone system with one receiver and two transmitters that can record 96kHz audio and stream directly to Sony's Alpha cameras via the Multi Interface Shoe, or to phones and PCs via USB-C. Each $120 transmitter has 64GB of onboard storage, 11 hours of battery life, magnetic mounting, and supports 32-bit float recording for gain-free audio capture across up to four tracks. Elgato has released the Wave Go, its first wireless microphone aimed at mobile content creators, priced at $99.99. The AirPod-sized, seven-gram clip-on mic offers condenser audio with EQ shift, auto gain, and noise cancellation, and pairs with a USB-C receiver compatible with iPhones, Android devices, and iPads over a 2.4GHz connection. An optional Smart Handle accessory converts it into a full-size interview mic and charges it, extending battery life to roughly 48 hours total.
Insta360's Luna Pro gimbal camera matches DJI's Osmo Pocket 4 with a 1-inch sensor, a 20mm f/1.8 lens, 10-bit log capture, subject tracking, detachable display, and up to four hours of battery life. It undercuts the Pocket 4 in some specs, like 4K vertical video versus 3K, but trails in dynamic range and internal storage, with recent testing noting weaknesses in its log footage.
DJI's new Osmo 360 II 360-degree camera keeps the 1/1.1-inch square sensor from its predecessor but upgrades the processor, now supporting 8K video at up to 60fps and 4K at 120fps. The company also says dynamic range has increased to 14.5 stops and added a SuperNight 2.0 noise-reduction mode with an 'Anti-motion Blur' setting for low-light shooting, alongside improved repairability over the original model.
DJI has introduced SDR Transmission II, a wireless video system for professional productions that transmits 4K 60 fps HDR footage at 50Mbps over distances up to 2.5 miles, doubling the bitrate and extending range compared to its predecessor. The system allows one transmitter to link with up to eight receivers, and larger setups can scale to five transmitters and 40 receivers for complex multi-camera shoots.
Insta360 has released the Luna Pro, a pared-down version of its Luna Ultra steadycam that removes the telephoto lens but keeps the same 1-inch 8K sensor. The standout feature is the ability to record 4K vertical video at 30fps, something the pricier Ultra model currently lacks. Nepal's army is using four China-donated DJI FlyCart 100 drones to make 10 to 16 daily aid runs following the August 26 glacier collapse that triggered flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border. The drones, each capable of hauling around 132 pounds per trip, have delivered food supplies and also retrieved bodies from areas inaccessible to ground crews. Because of an ongoing FCC restriction on new DJI hardware, the device is unlikely to launch officially in the United States.
