Meta's Muse AI agent hits 10 million downloads within a month of launch

Meta's Muse, an artificial-intelligence agent, has reached 10 million downloads in just over a month since its release. The rapid uptake marks one of the faster adoption curves among Meta's recent AI products.

Etsy bars AI-generated recipes and craft patterns from marketplace listings

Etsy announced it will no longer permit sellers to list AI-generated "functional guides," such as cooking recipes, crochet patterns and sewing instructions, on its marketplace. Sellers must now show a genuine finished item made from any instructions they sell, rather than an AI-simulated result, and include at least one unedited photo of the actual product. Etsy said AI-generated art remains allowed if sellers disclose its use and demonstrate meaningful involvement in creating it.

Fix found for Firefox's broken resumable large-file downloads

A user investigating unstable large downloads in Firefox found that the browser's default network.http.response.timeout setting of 300 seconds, present since Firefox 28, interferes with resuming interrupted downloads. Setting that value to 0 (or a very large number) via about:config reportedly makes large downloads both resumable and more stable, though the fix only works if the server itself supports resumable downloads.

Spotify tests Android feature to let users cap app cache size

Android Authority found Spotify developing a 'Cache Limit' feature for its Android app, letting users set a maximum size for the app's temporary storage cache. The tool would warn that smaller limits increase mobile data use and could affect playback, while suggesting a default size for balance. Downloaded music and podcasts stored offline would remain unaffected by this cache limit.

Meta's Muse app beats ChatGPT's early download and usage numbers, Apptopia finds

Apptopia data shows Meta's new AI app Muse recorded 1.8 million iOS downloads in the U.S. and Canada during its first 12 days, versus 1.3 million for ChatGPT in the same window after its 2022 debut. Muse also topped ChatGPT in daily active users at a comparable stage, with 642,000 U.S. daily users versus ChatGPT's 231,000, and has climbed to the No. 1 spot on the U.S. App Store.

ElevenLabs launches Music v2.5, its new default AI music model with download rights

ElevenLabs has released Music v2.5 as the new default model in ElevenMusic, improving audio quality with richer melodies and more natural instrument sounds across genres. Users on all plans, including Free, now own the rights to tracks they create, and can download lossless copies—five daily for Free users and 400 monthly for Pro subscribers. Tracks that reference other artists' songs are blocked from download to protect original creators.

YouTube Premium remains only legal way to download videos, with usage limits

YouTube offers just one sanctioned method for downloading videos: a YouTube Premium subscription. Originally limited to mobile devices, the download feature has since expanded to desktop platforms after testing began in 2020. However, videos saved this way can only be viewed within the YouTube app and cannot be repurposed for editing or reuse elsewhere.

Sony tells court no reasonable buyer thinks digital PS store purchases mean ownership

Responding to a June class-action lawsuit in California, Sony argued that consumers cannot reasonably believe that buying a game digitally grants ownership, since the same digital copy can be sold to countless buyers simultaneously, unlike a physical disc. The lawsuit alleges Sony's use of words like 'buy' and 'purchase' at checkout misleads consumers, while burying the true licensing terms in separate agreements they never have to actively acknowledge.
