A Cybercab rider in Austin reported that a trip meant to take ten minutes stretched into a 70-minute ordeal, with the vehicle initially heading the wrong way before winding through east Austin. Electrek attributes the meandering routes to the fact that Tesla's robotaxis cannot yet use highways and operate only within a limited, pre-mapped geofenced zone, unlike Waymo which already drives on highways in some cities.
A dashcam video shared by auto journalist Lei Xing shows a Tesla running the latest Full Self-Driving software, version 14.3.7, stopping at a railroad crossing with flashing lights and then suddenly accelerating toward the tracks as a freight train approached. The driver had to manually brake to avoid a collision, even though warning lights were flashing and train horns were audible. This follows earlier Tesla updates that claimed to improve detection of objects extending into a vehicle's path.
Tesla has stopped accepting new orders for its Solar Roof shingles, telling certified installers the product is no longer available for new projects. The company will keep selling conventional solar panels and home battery systems, and its old Solar Roof web page now redirects to its solar-panel offering. Sources told Electrek the product was scrapped because it was not financially viable.
