GFiber to launch Wi-Fi 8 gateway built on Qualcomm chipset ahead of IEEE standard

GFiber, Qualcomm and Gemtek have announced a Wi-Fi 8 Premium Gateway for GFiber's 20 Gig fiber customers, using Qualcomm's Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite Platform, which combines a penta-core CPU and an NPU. Gemtek will manufacture the device, and GFiber says current 20 Gig subscribers using Actiontec Wi-Fi 7 gateways will be upgraded once certification is complete. The move follows TP-Link's recent preorder announcement for its own Wi-Fi 8 router, even though the IEEE 802.11bn standard hasn't been finalized.

Developer Converts Gemtek W1700K Wi-Fi 7 Router Into 320Msps SDR Receiver

A hardware project has repurposed the Gemtek W1700K Wi-Fi 7 router's MediaTek MT7996 radio chip as a wideband software-defined radio receiver, capturing raw 14-bit IQ data at up to 320 megasamples per second. Custom firmware, built without any MediaTek code, drives the radio from cold boot and streams captured data over 10 GbE to a Linux host, which renders a live spectrum and waterfall display in a browser.
