A developer named Edward Kmett describes THC ('Turbo Haskell compiler'), a project begun a week ago that implements all of GHC 9.14.1's prim-ops and runs GHC Core via a Truffle/GraalVM-based JIT. GHC still handles parsing, typechecking and optimization, while THC executes the resulting Core, supports both JIT and ahead-of-time compilation via Native Image, and can already compile programs including pandoc, happy, alex and GHC itself.

A developer's blog post examines the 'Parse, don't validate' programming pattern, originally described by Alexis King for Haskell, and translates it into Rust examples. The post uses a case study involving a configuration-directory reader that validates a vector is non-empty, then shows how callers must still handle an 'unreachable' None case despite the invariant already being checked.

A Haskell programmer has published an essay addressing anxieties about AI-driven burnout, job insecurity from LLM-assisted coding, and declining code quality. The author, writing entirely without AI assistance, argues that much of programming's satisfaction comes from the act of expressing thought in code itself, and warns that relying on LLMs to generate code risks eroding that enjoyment.

The DataHaskell/Dataframe library now includes a writeParquet function that lets users export a dataframe directly to a Parquet file using default row group and page sizes. A writeParquetWithOptions variant is also provided for developers who want finer control over those settings.

A blogger describes a quirk of using GHCi (and ghcid) for live code reloading: GHCi can only track one set of source files at a time, so a properly separated project with distinct executable, library and test components can't have all parts reloaded simultaneously. To work around this while editing both tests and program code, the author merges everything into a single component, a compromise unsuitable for serious projects but workable for small experiments.
