Apple announced App Store tax updates taking effect immediately in Morocco, the Republic of the Congo, and Tanzania, reflecting new or increased VAT and digital sales taxes. Starting September 14, Apple will also update app and in-app purchase prices in Israel, Indonesia, Morocco, and the Republic of the Congo for developers who haven't set those regions as their base storefront.
Google's Android Developers account posted data claiming foldable phone owners spend roughly 14 times as much on in-app purchases as owners of regular smartphones. The company did not disclose specific dollar amounts or which categories of purchases—subscriptions, game currency, or otherwise—drove the gap. The post was framed as a pitch urging app developers to optimize their software for foldable screens, timed around the Pixel 11 Pro Fold launch.
Epic Games has filed a formal opposition to Apple's request to seal parts of its recent court filings on proposed commissions for purchases made outside the App Store via external links. Apple wants to redact financial figures, link-out adoption estimates, and developer survey data it calls commercially sensitive, but Epic argues the material is directly relevant to setting fair commission rates and should remain public. Epic also claims some of the data Apple wants hidden is either outdated or already publicly known.
