Supply-chain sources cited by DigiTimes say Intel is preparing to raise CPU prices by roughly 10% starting October 5, as CEO Lip-Bu Tan reviews pricing, manufacturing costs and the product lineup. The report also points to possible layoffs of 5-10% of Intel's global workforce and the discontinuation of lower-margin, lower-core chips used in industrial PCs, IoT and embedded systems.
According to Digitimes, Intel is preparing to raise prices on its PC processors by about 10 percent starting in October, following earlier increases this year. The outlet also reports Intel may cut 5 to 10 percent of its workforce while still hiring in some areas, and could phase out its Small Core line, which mainly affects industrial and IoT devices rather than consumer PCs.
Intel says it has run more than one million 300-mm wafers through its High-NA EUV scanners since assembling its first tool roughly two and a half years ago.
