Jon Peddie Research reports desktop discrete graphics card shipments reached 12.5 million units in Q2 2026, the highest quarterly total since early 2022, even as prices climbed to record levels. Nvidia shipped about 11.25 million of those units for roughly 90% market share, while AMD shipped around one million cards for about 8%.
Biren Technology reported first-half 2026 revenue of $183.9 million, up nearly 2,000% year-over-year, as Chinese buyers shifted to domestic AI accelerators after Nvidia halted GPU shipments to China under US export controls. Despite the revenue jump and a 42.7% gross margin, Biren posted a $56.2 million loss due to heavy investment in new chips, software, and rack-scale systems.
Jon Peddie Research found standalone GPU shipments rose 12.2% quarter over quarter and 14.1% year over year in Q2, even as the broader client CPU market shrank 1.1% annually and desktop PC demand softened. Total consumer PC GPU shipments, including integrated graphics, hit 75.5 million units, with notebook GPU shipments up 16.8% while desktop GPU shipments dropped 4%. Intel led the overall GPU market with 56% share from integrated graphics, followed by Nvidia at 23% and AMD at 21%.
Jon Peddie Research says standalone graphics processor shipments for consumer PCs rose 12.2% quarter-over-quarter and 14.1% year-over-year in Q2 2026, even as component shortages pushed prices higher and overall CPU shipments fell. Notebook GPU shipments jumped 16.8% sequentially while desktop GPU shipments slipped 4%, with AMD picking up market share in the process.
