Researchers studying bearded capuchin monkeys at Fazenda Boa Vista in northeastern Brazil observed the primates supplementing their mostly plant-based diet with snakes, opossums, iguanas, bats, rodents and bird eggs when fruit and nuts became scarce. The findings, published August 26 in PLOS One, came from two decades of field observations originally focused on the monkeys' tool use.
