The Witcher 3 Remastered Launches Free for Owners, GPU Benchmarks Published

CD Projekt Red has released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered as a free update for existing owners on PC and modern consoles, alongside a native Nintendo Switch 2 version. The remaster overhauls combat, rebalances the skill tree, and upgrades REDengine 3 to support ray tracing and path tracing, improved textures, foliage, lighting and a new photo mode. Reviewers have begun benchmarking GPU performance in the remaster, testing cards from Nvidia's RTX 5090 down to Intel's Arc B580 in the demanding Novigrad city area.

CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski said the decision to build The Witcher 4 on Unreal Engine 5 dates back to late 2021, after the studio saw Epic's Matrix Awakens tech demo, rather than being a reaction to Cyberpunk 2077's rocky launch. He clarified that Cyberpunk's problems weren't caused by its engine, and that CD Projekt has since formed a deep partnership with Epic to customize Unreal Engine's core technology for its open-world games.
