Terrastruct open-sources TALA autolayout algorithm under MPL-2.0

Terrastruct has released TALA, its custom autolayout algorithm for D2 diagrams, as open-source software under the same MPL-2.0 license used for D2 itself. TALA is an orthogonal layout engine tuned for software architecture diagrams, optimizing for symmetry, flow, clustering and other aesthetic qualities, and it uniquely allows users to lock specific node coordinates while letting the engine handle the rest.

D2 diagramming language becomes non-profit under Hack Club fiscal sponsorship

D2, previously funded as an open-core project by a for-profit company that developed a closed-source IDE and proprietary layout algorithm, is transitioning to independent non-profit status under Hack Club's fiscal sponsorship as the parent company shuts down. Creator Alex will continue maintaining D2 but with reduced time commitment, and is seeking new maintainers who could be paid through donation-funded contracts.
