On Tesla's Wednesday earnings call, Elon Musk said the company is 'aiming for' 5 million vehicle deliveries annually by around 2030, calling it achievable. Tesla's deliveries have actually declined recently, from a 2023 peak of 1.81 million to 1.64 million in 2025.
Elon Musk said ASML and other key semiconductor equipment suppliers have accelerated deliveries to support the Terafab chip plant being built jointly by Tesla and SpaceX. Speaking on SpaceX's Q3 2026 earnings broadcast on X, Musk targeted volume chip production at the Gibbons Creek, Texas facility by late 2028, with an experimental test chip expected from an Austin research fab around Q2 2027.

TSMC CEO C.C. Wei told analysts on an earnings call that the company is evaluating US expansion beyond Arizona, including Texas, and confirmed ongoing discussions with Elon Musk about using capacity at Terafab. Wei said any TSMC involvement would require TSMC itself to manage the facility, a condition that conflicts with Musk's earlier suggestion that Terafab would operate the fab while only sub-leasing cleanroom space to TSMC.
According to Tim Culpan, Elon Musk's Terafab chip project will receive its first ASML EUV lithography scanner in mid-2027. SemiAnalysis notes the development fab's shell at Giga Texas won't be finished until late 2027, meaning the tool could sit unused for months before installation begins.
Elon Musk told attendees at an X Takeover event that he has no experience making microchips, even as he moves forward with Terafab, a planned $15 billion-plus semiconductor factory in Texas involving Tesla, SpaceX and Intel. The project is projected to create about 3,000 jobs, and Musk said his companies would begin with standard chipmaking equipment before modifying it to boost output.
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said Intel will remain involved in Terafab, the chipmaking venture backed by SpaceX, Tesla and xAI that plans to use Intel's 14A process. Elon Musk separately denied rumors that his companies would bring in TSMC to build and operate the fab, insisting Terafab itself will construct and run the facility, though he suggested TSMC could 'sublease' part of it.
Elon Musk confirmed on X that discussions are underway with TSMC about a potential collaboration tied to his Terafab chipmaking initiative, saying 'something may come of it.' According to Tim Culpan's Culpium newsletter, the most likely arrangement would have TSMC own and operate a new fab serving only Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, with SpaceX/Terafab possibly investing or committing to chip purchase volumes; a less likely alternative would give SpaceX majority ownership with TSMC providing operational and process expertise.
Tera-Print, a small US company that has sold Tera-Fab branded beam pen lithography tools for about a decade, sent a cease-and-desist letter to Tesla, SpaceX and SpaceXAI in May over use of the Terafab name. Tera-Print, whose clients reportedly include the Department of Defense, has now filed a trademark lawsuit, while Tesla and SpaceX argue their planned high-volume chip manufacturing venture is unrelated to Tera-Print's tabletop bioengineering and prototyping tools.
