A ZDNET writer describes setting up Tailscale, a free service that links home computers—two physical machines and four virtual ones—into a secure private network called a tailnet. The setup allowed remote desktop access to all machines from abroad without configuring router settings or firewall rules, using tools already familiar to the user like Remote Desktop clients.
Microsoft has begun testing a feature in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26340.9233 that lets users control camera, microphone, and precise location access separately for each desktop application. Microsoft has confirmed that the August 2026 .NET Framework cumulative update causes some WPF-based applications to throw a System.IO.FileFormatException when printing or exporting to PDF/XPS with fonts like Calibri. Microsoft has released a temporary fix for a bug introduced by its August 2026 Windows 11 updates (KB5121003 and later) that caused games like ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals to crash, freeze, or trigger system restarts. The company traced the problem to a driver file called inpoutx64.sys, commonly bundled with RGB lighting peripherals, which conflicts with recent changes made to the Windows kernel. Users can now manually disable this driver through the Windows Registry while Microsoft works on a permanent patch.
