Indie developer traces GPU shader stutter to a float rounding quirk in Voronoi noise code

A developer building a Voronoi-diagram shader for a music video noticed the animation stuttered on only one of their machines. A week-long investigation into shader compilation and disassembly revealed the bug stemmed from how the fractional part of a floating-point number was handled differently across hardware, causing visible artifacts.

Developer Shares Shadertoy Technique for Fractal Voronoi Coastlines

A developer published a Shadertoy demo introducing a recursive variant of jittered Voronoi diagrams that produces fractal-like cell boundaries, similar in spirit to Worley noise. The method works by generating hierarchical layers of randomly jittered grid points, each finer layer tracing its 'parent' site in the coarser layer above, so that following parent links upward defines each cell's fractal boundary without needing to explicitly build a Voronoi diagram.
