CXMT to launch first 4F² DRAM as server DDR5 RDIMM by year-end

CXMT president Cao Kanyu said the Chinese memory maker plans to ship its first 4F²-based product, a server DDR5 RDIMM, before year-end, though speeds and capacities remain unannounced. The chip uses a denser vertical-transistor cell layout, called Vertical Surrounded Gate, that shrinks cell area roughly one-third versus current 6F² designs, and CXMT says it holds over 300 patent families related to the technology.

Wikimedia bans AI-written text on Wikipedia after months of cleanup efforts failed

Wikipedia editors, who once hoped AI would merely automate formatting and citations, found generative models flooding the encyclopedia with fabricated sources and generic filler text. A Princeton study found roughly 5% of nearly 3,000 new English Wikipedia articles in August 2024 contained substantial AI-generated content. By March 2026, Wikimedia had banned editors from writing articles with large language models, limiting AI use to translation and minor proofreading.

Zelensky says Ukrainian strikes on Yandex data centers cut bot activity, coincide with drop in Musk's X engagement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last week's three strikes on Russian company Yandex's data centers reduced bot activity across social media, saying platforms felt less divisive and less manipulated as a result. Separately, X users and tech commentators noted that Elon Musk's post engagement numbers dropped sharply in the days following the strikes, with daily like averages falling from tens of thousands to under 5,000 on some posts.

Tampered Ledger hardware wallets sold by third-party resellers drain over $93M in crypto

An ongoing investigation has found that counterfeit or tampered Ledger hardware wallets, sold through third-party resellers like Cryptobilis in Southeast Asia and elsewhere, contained hidden eSIM and LTE chips capable of capturing users' recovery phrases. Researchers say more than $93 million has already been stolen from affected users, while wallets purchased directly from Ledger remain unaffected. Cryptobilis has halted sales of all hardware wallet brands while the investigation continues.

Le Random launches 'Living Timeline' tracing generative art to 71,000 BCE cave markings

Digital art institution Le Random has released an interactive project called The Living Timeline, which maps the history of generative art from prehistoric markings to contemporary AI diffusion models. The timeline includes crosshatched ocher engravings found in Blombos Cave in South Africa, dated to roughly 71,000 BCE, as an early example of rule-based or systems-driven creative output.

Alex Gibney's 'Musk' documentary opens in theaters without Elon Musk interview

Director Alex Gibney's nearly four-hour documentary 'Musk' debuts in theaters this Friday after Elon Musk declined to be interviewed. Gibney instead built an AI simulation of Musk from his public statements, while interviewing dozens of associates including Musk's father Errol, first wife Justine Musk, ex-girlfriend Ashley St. Claire, and journalists Kara Swisher and Katie Drummond.

ICQ Server Flaw Lets Attackers Log In to Any Account Without Password

A bug reported to Rootshell revealed that ICQ's authentication servers could be accessed using any account's UIN paired with a 9-character password, bypassing the real password entirely. The developer of a Linux ICQ client discovered the flaw after a user mistyped a password but was still logged in, tracing it to a buffer overflow in Mirabilis's server-side password check. Rootshell confirmed the bug and published exploit details, including sample code and a 'password' like '123456789' that overruns the 8-character buffer.
