‘He Was Murdered’: Elon Musk Jumps Into Controversy Over OpenAI Whistleblower

Tucker Carlson published a new interview with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Wednesday in which the two men discussed some pretty dark topics. Altman also talked about his beef with Elon Musk, and it wasn’t long before the Tesla CEO chimed in on X with his own thoughts, definitively claiming that a whistleblower at OpenAI “was murdered,” in a tweet Thursday. During the episode, Carlson and Altman talk about Suchir Balaji, a researcher at OpenAI who died on Nov. 26, 2024. Balaji had accused OpenAI of

Nothing Ear (3) gets fully revealed with case that has a mic and ‘Talk’ button

TL;DR Nothing has revealed the full design of the Ear (3) and its charging case. The earbuds retain much of the transparent casing the company is known for, but some metal components were added for a more premium finish. The case now has a microphone and a dedicated “Talk” button. Nothing revealed earlier this week that it would launch the Ear (3) on September 18, which is next Thursday. Not one to wait for announcement events, the company has gone ahead and revealed the full design of its ne

France confirms new Apple spyware campaign alert

In a threat and incidents report released today, France’s Information Security Agency confirmed that Apple issued a new wave of threat notifications earlier this month. Here are the details. The alert didn’t specify who was behind the recent campaign According to the agency’s report, Apple sent its latest round of security alerts to French citizens on September 3, 2025, marking the fourth campaign just this year. Previous notification waves were sent on March 5, April 29, and June 25. As the

3 reasons why I'm skipping the iPhone 17 Pro and buying this model instead

Nina Raemont/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. There are plenty of dedicated iPhone users like myself who are loyal to base model iPhones. When I upgrade my iPhone every two or so years, I don't bother with the Pro variations. My position is that as the base model iPhones become more advanced, I don't need to spend a few hundred extra dollars on features that a casual user like me won't need. I'm the opposite of a power user, unless power is synonymous with a scary a

Apple warns customers targeted in recent spyware attacks

Apple warned customers last week that their devices were targeted in a new series of spyware attacks, according to the French national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-FR). CERT-FR is operated by ANSSI, the National Cybersecurity Agency, and is responsible for preventing and mitigating cybersecurity-related incidents impacting public and critical organizations. According to a Thursday advisory, CERT-FR is aware of at least four instances of Apple threat notifications alerting the company

Nothing’s New Wireless Earbuds Have a ‘Talk’ Button, and I Need to Know What That Means

Buttons are in right now—at least if you’re a designer at Nothing, they are. On its Headphone 1 (the first pair of Nothing-made over-ear headphones), there are all sorts of doodads. A paddle for track selection; a tic-tac-shaped wheel/button for volume and ANC; a pairing button (okay, this one is boring, but still, it’s a button). Even on its recently released Phone 3, there’s a button on the back of the phone for doing really useful stuff with its “Glyph Matrix,” like… playing spin the bottle.

Françoise Cadol is the voice actor for Lara Croft in the French localizations of the Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered games. She has sent a legal notice to the games' publisher, Aspyr, alleging that a recent patch used artificial intelligence to alter her performance without her consent. The news was originally reported by French publication Le Parisien and picked up by Game Developer . According to August 2025 patch notes for the remastered game collection, Tomb Raider VI was updated with some adj

This Secret iPhone Feature Could Improve Your Call Quality

Apple is set to release iOS 26 on Sept. 15, and it will bring call screening and more to your iPhone then. But you don't need the latest iOS update to use Voice Isolation, an iPhone feature that can make your calls clearer for the person you're talking with. Apple introduced Voice Isolation in 2023 with iOS 16.4. The tech company added the feature, alongside Wide Spectrum, to FaceTime calls with iOS 15 in 2021, but only Voice Isolation is available for regular phone calls at this time. When Vo

35 percent of VMware workloads expected to migrate elsewhere by 2028

VMware will lose a significant chunk of business over the next three years, according to Gartner research VP Julia Palmer. Of course, some organizations have already abandoned VMware or are plotting partial or total migrations. Broadcom acquired the virtualization business in November 2023 and made sweeping changes that alienated many customers. The biggest concerns have been higher costs driven by a shift from perpetual licenses to subscriptions and the bundling of products into fewer, more ex

New VMScape attack breaks guest-host isolation on AMD, Intel CPUs

A new Spectre-like attack dubbed VMScape allows a malicious virtual machine (VM) to leak cryptographic keys from an unmodified QEMU hypervisor process running on modern AMD or Intel CPUs. The attack breaks the isolation between VMs and the cloud hypervisor, bypassing existing Spectre mitigations and threatening to leak sensitive data by leveraging speculative execution. The researchers highlight that VMScape does not require compromising the host and works on unmodified virtualization software

The iPhone 17 looks great, but I’d still choose the Pixel 10 over it

Robert Triggs / Android Authority At first, I wasn’t sure how to feel about the iPhone 17. To me, all of the leaks pointed towards another year of the same old, same old. But then, Apple unveiled its base-level flagship, and it had some tricks up its sleeve. It gave the base iPhone 17 a 120Hz refresh rate, an updated chipset, and doubled its base storage — not to mention a 48MP ultrawide camera. And you know what? Those are all significant upgrades. They’ll make the iPhone 17 Apple’s best yet.

Best Travel Cameras (2025), Tested and Reviewed

If you want a camera that has a capable zoom, shoots excellent RAW images and great 4K/30 fps video, and manages to fit in most pockets, the Sony RX100 VII is your best bet. The Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-200-mm F2.8-4.5 zoom lens allows a huge range of shots from something that's pocketable—this alone makes it a great travel camera. The 1-inch sensor produces 20.1-MP images (RAW or JPG or both) and while f/2.8 isn't the fastest aperture, it's enough to handle shooting indoors in moderate light. T

Samsung is working on a continuous zoom camera, but Galaxy phones don’t have first dibs

Robert Triggs / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung is reportedly working on a continuous zoom camera system for smartphones. This tech will apparently be supplied to Chinese brands first, with Samsung Electronics following later. This would enable a consistent level of photo and video quality across a given zoom range. We’ve seen very few Android phones with continuous zoom cameras. In fact, Sony is the only major company offering this tech on its devices. However, Samsung is also working on th

Deliberate Abstraction

I recently wrote code to simulate a card game. The details are irrelevant, but it was a great opportunity to put inside-out design into practise, because when I started programming, I didn’t actually know the rules of the game, nor what all the card types were. Thus, I started from a very general core that I did know with certainty: Card - name : string - valid_play : Card -> bool A card has a name and it gets to decide on its own whether it’s legal to play this card on top of another card. Na

“No Tax on Tips” Includes Digital Creators, Too

President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act may have quietly changed the economics of the creator economy. The U.S. Treasury Department this past week released a list of occupations “that customarily and regularly received tips” and thus will be eligible for the administration’s flagship “no tax on tips” policy, which will let eligible taxpayers deduct their tipped income, within certain limits. And while the list includes the obvious (bartenders, food servers, casino dealers and housekeepers
