Microsoft: Anti-spam bug blocks links in Exchange Online, Teams

Microsoft is working to resolve a known issue that causes an anti-spam service to mistakenly block Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams users from opening URLs and quarantine some of their emails. In a service alert seen by BleepingComputer, the company stated that the issue is caused by the anti-spam engine incorrectly tagging URLs contained within other URLs as potentially malicious, which has also led to some emails being quarantined. The issues began impacting Exchange Online and Microsoft

Can a Despised Autocrat Consolidate Power?

Yesterday I wrote about Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary, and made some unflattering observations about him. So it might be worth mentioning a new incident, reported by Politico. Apparently Bessent confronted Bill Pulte, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency — a piece of work himself — at a fancy dinner, accusing Pulte of bad-mouthing him to the president: “Why the fuck are you talking to the president about me? Fuck you,” Bessent told Pulte. “I’m gonna punch you in your fucking face.

X Design Notes: Unifying OCaml Modules and Values

In 2020, I released Cubiml, showing how to combine full type inference with structural subtyping in an ML-like language, and earlier this year, I followed it up with PolySubML, extending it with higher rank types and existential types among other features. For my next language (which I’ll call X here, since I haven’t chosen a name yet), I set the ambitious goal of supporting all of OCaml’s most notable functionality on top of everything PolySubML already supports. In this post, I will talk about

AI Use at Large Companies Is in Decline, Census Bureau Says

For the past few years, the AI industry has been charging full steam ahead, in what can sometimes feel like a pell-mell mad dash to take over the world. Ever since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, the industry has leveraged an ever-expanding arsenal of political, cultural, and economic power in its effort to lay claim to many different parts of society. Yet, despite the AI industry’s attempts to make itself seem omnipresent, a new report this week shows that adoption at large U.S. companies has de

A new species of bacteria has come to light in Brazil. It’s genetically similar to two other disease-causing bacteria from the Andes, which are known to infect humans through sand fly bites. Their peer-reviewed research, published Tuesday, shows some of the untested ideas, such as dispersing particles in the atmosphere to dim sunlight or trying to refreeze ice sheets with pumped water, could have unintended and dangerous consequences.
