Opinion piece says hiring alone won't fix scaling startups' operational flaws

An Entrepreneur contributor opinion piece argues that businesses experiencing rapid growth often respond by adding headcount, increasing marketing spend, and working longer hours—but this can mask deeper structural problems rather than solve them. The piece cites SPR Research data showing billable utilization for professional services firms fell to a record low of 66.4% in 2025, well below a 75% target, as evidence that adding staff without fixing workflows makes scaling harder.

Jevman ran 100 games per AI model against scripted Pac-Man ghosts, with each game ending after three lost lives or a 5-minute cap. At every junction the model was asked to weigh the maze, pellets and ghost positions and output movement probabilities, with a 2-second deadline before a backup rule took over. Results were ranked by mean score with a 95% margin of error, and models within that margin were treated as tied.
