New terminal escape sequence OSC 7501 proposed to report program status

A specification has been published for OSC 7501, dubbed the Program Status Protocol, a terminal escape sequence that lets programs report states such as idle, working, waiting on user input, finished, or failed, along with a reason. The author gives an example of Terraform using the sequence to signal it is blocked awaiting a permission confirmation, with terminals free to display that status as a notification, icon, or inbox entry. The spec grew out of the author's work on Superlogical and Ghostty but is presented as a generic, product-agnostic standard any terminal could adopt.
